en.Wedoany.com Reported - JP Morgan has submitted a £60 million plan to the City of London to refurbish and expand an office building near the Barbican.

The nine-storey office, located at 140 Aldersgate, was built in 2005 and originally designed by Sidell Gibson Architects. JP Morgan's asset management business is leading the redevelopment project and has appointed Gensler as the architect. The plan will retain the existing building structure, add two additional floors at the top, and refurbish the facade while improving thermal performance.

The project team includes: Turner & Townsend as project manager, its sister company T&T Alinea handling cost control, DP9 for planning, Buro Happold for structural engineering, Gardiner & Theobald as lead designer, Arup for facade design, Sweco for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering, and Gustafson Porter + Bowman as landscape architect. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, with existing tenants vacating in the first quarter of next year.

Meanwhile, JP Morgan's £500 million redevelopment of One Spitalfields has also made progress. The building, also constructed in 2005, has had its refurbishment and partial new-build plan returned by Bovis, Mace, and Multiplex. Bids were returned last week, and the winner will be determined by the end of the month. The project, designed by architect Foster & Partners (also the designer of the original 2005 scheme), plans to retain and expand the existing office building, providing 870,000 square feet of office and retail space, along with 70,000 square feet of new terraces.
