en.Wedoany.com Reported - Public Services and Procurement Canada has awarded a C$74.7 million contract to Ocean Pacific Marine, based in Campbell River, British Columbia, to design and build three next-generation police coastal patrol vessels (NG-PCPV) for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) West Coast Marine Services.

Ocean Pacific Marine/Camarc Design

The project will feature advanced aluminum patrol boats, designed in a joint venture between Ocean Pacific Marine and Scottish naval architecture firm Camarc Design. The new vessels will replace and upgrade the RCMP's existing coastal patrol fleet, enhancing law enforcement, search and rescue, emergency response, and policing services for remote coastal communities. Bruce Kempling, founder and president of Ocean Pacific Marine, stated that this contract demonstrates how a small business in Campbell River can compete on the national stage and deliver world-class marine projects. The company's CEO, Govinda Advani, noted that the firm has built a strong reputation over the past 40-plus years and will leverage this foundation to become a long-term partner for the Canadian government throughout the vessels' entire lifecycle.

The vessels are based on the Camarc Design 25-meter series, featuring all-aluminum monohull construction with an overall length of approximately 26.8 meters, a sustained speed of up to 28 knots, a range of 450 nautical miles at sustained speed, a self-sufficiency of 7 days, and a crew configuration of 4 plus 2 specialists. Mission capabilities include policing, coastal security, diving and underwater recovery support, and towing.

The contract is expected to generate significant long-term economic benefits for the marine industry in Campbell River and British Columbia. Construction of the three vessels will support skilled employment in areas such as welding, marine engineering, electrical and mechanical work, project management, quality assurance, procurement, and administration, while also creating new job opportunities. The project will also bring substantial work to a broad network of British Columbia-based suppliers and subcontractors, including key manufacturing partner Bracewell Marine Group in Richmond, British Columbia. For Campbell River, this contract further solidifies the city's reputation as a leading center for marine services, including shipbuilding and ship repair, on Canada's West Coast, while supporting apprenticeship training and local workforce development. Ocean Pacific Marine stated that it views this contract as recognition of the dedication of its employees, partners, and customers over the past 41 years.
