en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Canadian federal government announced an investment of over $5.8 million through the Direct Delivery stream under the Build Communities Strong Fund for the expansion of the regional sewer system in the Rural Municipality of St. Clements.

The project will upgrade the East Selkirk Wastewater Treatment Lagoon, including expanding treatment capacity and volume, upgrading the system to achieve year-round continuous discharge in compliance with environmental regulations, and constructing a new outfall into the Red River.

Ginette Lavack, Member of Parliament for Saint-Boniface—Saint-Vital, stated that the investment in the municipality's wastewater infrastructure will help protect the Red River, support future growth, and provide more resilient wastewater services for residents and neighboring communities.

Debbie Fiebelkorn, Mayor of the Rural Municipality of St. Clements, said that the upgrade of the East Selkirk lagoon will enable the region to responsibly manage wastewater for decades to come, while protecting the Red River, reducing reliance on aging septic systems, and laying the groundwork for a service-sharing partnership with the Rural Municipality of East St. Paul.
