en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Texas Energy Fund has allocated over $4 billion to support grid reliability projects in the state. Among these, projects related to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) received approximately $3.65 billion for building new natural gas generation capacity, while projects outside ERCOT received about $650 million for winterization and grid reinforcement efforts.

Thomas Gleeson, Chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), stated in a press release that each reliability project complements the others, providing multi-layered protection for consumers and businesses, covering everything from substations and utility poles to overhead lines, and that the funding program helps make every step of the grid more resilient. The PUCT administers the energy fund.

The funding for Southwestern Public Service will cover a drone-based utility pole inspection project involving over 273,000 structures. The utility will install pole-mounted sensors to monitor conditions along distribution lines, detect and assess hazards in real time, and improve fault response times. Other grid upgrades and equipment modernization projects will also be covered by this funding.

Baldridge stated that these upgrades will help strengthen the grid, better withstand severe weather, and keep costs as low as possible while supporting community safety.

The PUCT recently announced other Energy Fund grant projects, including $30 million for Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative to build new substations and other upgrades, and nearly $9 million for Lamb County Electric Cooperative for transmission line replacement and increased transformer capacity, among other reliability projects.
