en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 7, Deutsche Bahn adjusted the plan for the Germany Stuttgart 21 railway hub project, with total project cost estimates rising to approximately 14.5 billion euros. Under the new arrangement, the Stuttgart 21 project will be commissioned in five phases, spanning from December 2027 to December 2033, replacing the previous timeline centered on a 2026 opening.

The Stuttgart 21 project includes the new underground Stuttgart Central Station, the airport long-distance station, the digital extension of the S-Bahn main line, the new Mittnachtstraße/Rosenstein station, and the Pfaffensteig tunnel. According to the current schedule, a shorter walking path around the historic Bonatz building and access to the station roof will first open in December 2027; the airport long-distance station is planned to be commissioned in December 2030; and the new underground Stuttgart Central Station is scheduled to be commissioned in December 2031.

Deutsche Bahn stated that an internal project audit identified issues in planning, coordination, risk management, and system control, necessitating a rescheduling of the commissioning milestones. The project cost increase of approximately 3 billion euros is mainly related to remaining commissioning work, the complexity of the digital signaling system, insufficient planning maturity, and adjustments to the power supply system. The subsequent focus of Stuttgart 21 will shift to project organizational restructuring, risk management corrections, and phased commissioning arrangements.
