en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 6, the Swiss Federal Council approved the infrastructure concession for the Lausanne M3 automated metro line, further clarifying the conditions for project construction and operation. The M3 metro line will operate fully automatically, entirely underground, and on a dual-track system, with a length of approximately 3.5 kilometers. It is planned to include six stations between Lausanne Central Station and Blécherette.
The M3 metro project is part of the backbone public transport network development in the Lausanne-Morges metropolitan area, focusing on meeting travel demand between Lausanne city center and the northwestern district. Once completed, the line will connect with the existing M2 metro and other public transport routes, improving transport links between the city center, Beaulieu, Plaines-du-Loup, Blécherette, and other areas, while providing high-capacity rail transit services for newly developed districts.
Following the Swiss Federal Council's approval of the infrastructure concession, the project will still require progress in construction organization, equipment procurement, station construction, system integration, and operational preparation. Automated metro systems impose high requirements on signal control, platform facilities, ventilation and fire protection, and underground space organization, typically resulting in longer construction periods. The advancement of the M3 metro project will provide new infrastructure support for expanding Lausanne's rail transit network and enhancing the city's public transport capacity.
