en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 7, Norwegian fertilizer and chemical company Yara International, through its U.S. subsidiary Yara North America, advanced the acquisition of the Gulf Coast Ammonia production facility in Texas, USA, for a transaction amount of $1.3 billion. Located in Texas City, the ammonia chemical project has an annual production capacity of approximately 1.3 million tons, primarily producing liquid ammonia to serve the fertilizer, industrial chemical, and ammonia supply chain demands.
The Gulf Coast Ammonia plant is currently in the commissioning phase and is expected to gradually reach stable production status by the end of 2026. The facility synthesizes ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen, with Air Products supplying the relevant industrial gases to the plant under a long-term agreement. Through this acquisition of the ammonia chemical facility, Yara can expand its ammonia production capacity in the U.S. Gulf Coast region and enhance the supply resilience of raw materials and chemical products in North America.
Upon completion of this ammonia chemical acquisition, Yara will further increase its local production assets in the United States. For the ammonia chemical supply chain, Texas offers a foundation of ports, natural gas, industrial gases, and chemical clusters, making it suitable for hosting large-scale ammonia production, storage, transportation, and downstream supply. The subsequent transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, and the plant's operational performance will depend on commissioning progress, raw material supply, plant load, and downstream demand changes.
