en.Wedoany.com Reported - Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that over the past year, the country has consolidated a series of port projects involving investments exceeding $2.3 billion for the expansion and modernization of infrastructure at seven domestic ports, aiming to strengthen the national port system, address foreign trade growth, and reduce logistics costs.

Key projects include the Port of Matarani, where a supplementary modernization agreement signed on November 6, 2025, plans an investment of $705 million over the next 30 years, expected to double the terminal's operational capacity.

At the Port of Callao, Phase 3A of the Northern Multipurpose Terminal (Etapa 3A del Terminal Norte Multipropósito) became operational in 2026, with an investment of $77.9 million. The project increased grain storage capacity from 25,000 tons to 85,000 tons, added two continuous unloaders, and opened a 2.13-hectare new container yard. At the end of June, Phase 3B (Etapa 3B) began implementation with an investment of $350.3 million for the construction and modernization of docks, dredging works, and the addition of new container gantry cranes.

In February of this year, the infrastructure portion of the Mineral Concentrate Loading and Hydrocarbon Unloading Terminal (Terminal de Embarque de Concentrados de Minerales y Descarga de Hidrocarburos) was approved, with an investment of $160 million to expand mineral loading capacity and ensure fuel supply for Lima, central Peru, and the new Jorge Chávez International Airport.

In April 2026, the master plan update for the Port Terminal of Lambayeque (Terminal Portuario de Lambayeque) was approved, planning an investment of $616 million to develop the terminal in three phases. The project will benefit seven regions in northern and northeastern Peru, aiming to create a logistics corridor connecting the Amazon region with international markets.

The MTC also reported the completion of investments at the Port Terminal of Salaverry (Terminal Portuario de Salaverry), located in the La Libertad region, where a solid waste warehouse has been built and the second phase of installation of reefer container connections has been completed, with the works received by the National Port Authority.

Meanwhile, the ministry continues to advance the Port of Paita Foreport (Antepuerto de Paita) project, with its pre-feasibility study expected to be completed by July 2026. The project plans to build a parking lot capable of accommodating 200 heavy trucks and provide services for transporters, aiming to optimize port access and improve logistics efficiency.
