University of Edinburgh's 6,500 sqm Engineering Forum Building Completed

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The newly constructed Engineering Forum Building at the University of Edinburgh's King's Buildings campus has been officially completed. Designed by BDP Architects and built by McLaughlin & Harvey, the building has a total floor area of 6,500 square meters.

The Engineering Forum Building integrates teaching, research, innovation, and social spaces within a highly flexible environment. It features specialist laboratories, flexible teaching spaces, computer labs, conference facilities, dedicated innovation work areas, and informal zones for interaction among students and researchers. Designed around the principles of collaboration and adaptability, the building aims to support research in renewable energy, power systems, and future electronic technologies, serving as a new focal point for the engineering community.

The building houses the Wolfson Power Conversion Laboratory, which will focus on developing sustainable energy technologies for offshore renewable energy and other low-carbon energy systems. The university stated that the building is a key component of its long-term campus development vision and is now open to students and staff.

BDP was commissioned in 2017 to develop a long-term vision for the School of Engineering at the King's Buildings campus. The Engineering Forum Building is the result of this plan, consolidating teaching, research, and collaboration spaces within a single interconnected building tailored to the needs of students, academics, and industry partners. BDP Associate Architect Daniel Mayers noted that the essence of engineering lies in bringing together people, ideas, and technology to solve real-world challenges. The building was designed from the outset with this principle in mind, reflecting this understanding in its laboratory environments, open social spaces, and collaborative areas, emphasizing that every part is focused on supporting its daily users.
