en.Wedoany.com Reported - Italian chocolate mold manufacturer Cabrellon Srl is expanding its product portfolio by adopting Eastman's Tritan Renew copolyester, which contains 25% certified recycled content (based on mass balance allocation certification) and is BPA-free. Cabrellon, a long-time customer of Eastman, has previously used Eastman's Tritan copolyester in industrial chocolate molds.
"We believed early on that a BPA-free copolyester could match, and in some aspects even surpass, the performance that polycarbonate provides for chocolate molds," said Cinzia Cabrellon, CEO and General Manager of Cabrellon.
Polycarbonate has been the default material for industrial chocolate molds for decades. The European Commission has adopted Regulation (EU) 2024/3190, restricting the use of bisphenol A (BPA) and related bisphenols in food contact materials. Chocolate mold manufacturers and chocolate producers across Europe are now actively seeking alternative materials that maintain durability and operational efficiency.
Tritan and Tritan Renew are specifically designed to meet the performance requirements of demanding food contact applications, including impact and shatter resistance, dimensional stability under repeated use, excellent release properties for complex designs, and dishwasher durability.
Tritan has received food contact approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The material is produced and supplied at commercial scale, providing mold manufacturers and brand owners with confidence in consistent and reliable supply.
The additional advantage of Tritan Renew lies in its certified recycled content, produced through Eastman's molecular recycling technology. According to the company, this enables customers to reduce the carbon footprint of their molds without compromising performance, clarity, or compliance.
