en.Wedoany.com Reported - The cumulative production of marine shale gas from the Pugang Gas Field, China's largest integrated marine high-sulfur gas field, has exceeded 60 million cubic meters, marking a phased progress in the replacement capacity construction of this block.
Marine shale gas refers to natural gas generated and stored in organic-rich shale formed in marine sedimentary environments, and is the main type of shale gas exploration and development in China. For the Pugang Gas Field, marine shale gas serves both as a supplement to replace traditional sour gas production and as a reserve resource to stabilize field output. In May 2023, the first marine shale gas well in the Pugang Gas Field, Well Leiye 1, was put into production. Subsequently, the block targeted the main layer of the Permian Dalong Formation and continued to advance large-scale construction. As of now, the block has built three stations and six production wells, with an average daily gas output exceeding 180,000 cubic meters.

Since 2025, the Pugang Gas Field has accelerated the drilling and construction of new wells, with teams stationed on site for over 40 consecutive days to complete the production construction of the Leiye 1 well group. Three marine shale gas wells—Leiye 1-1HF, Leiye 1-2HF, and Leiye 1-3HF—have been successively put into production, boosting output.

While expanding incremental production, the technical team systematically analyzed the drainage and production characteristics of shale gas reservoirs during stages such as natural flow drainage, intermittent drainage, and continuous drainage, addressing issues like liquid loading in old wells and deteriorating wellbore conditions. This led to the development of an integrated liquid-loading treatment strategy combining "flowback drainage + foam drainage + gas lift drainage + boost recovery." The team conducted on-site tracking using test data, established a "one well, one strategy" management system and a wellbore condition prediction chart, guiding the formulation and implementation of measures such as coiled tubing well cleaning, periodic well flushing, and flowback drainage, thereby improving drainage and production efficiency.
In the next step, the Pugang Gas Field will optimize the integrated drilling, production, and transportation mechanism, improve extraction technologies, expand the scale of shale gas development, and enhance the capacity for clean energy supply.
