en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Flemish government has approved the draft project for the "Left Bank Container Cluster (Clúster de Contenedores de la Margen Izquierda)" at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, which will add additional container handling capacity to the port. Initiated jointly by the Flemish Department of Mobility and Public Works, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, and the Left Bank Development Company (Maatschappij Linkerscheldeoever), the project plans to increase the container handling capacity of the Port of Antwerp by 7 million TEUs.

The Container Complex Left Bank (CCL) is the core of this ECA project, with its key component being the construction of a second container ship tidal dock adjacent to the existing Deurganck Dock. Connected to the new container terminal is the Three Docks logistics zone, which will provide space for container logistics operations and feature a large landscaped buffer zone to isolate the port infrastructure from the surrounding polders and the village of Doel.

Johan Klaps, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, expressed delight at this significant progress. He noted that an increasing volume of goods is being transported globally via container shipping, and the demand for container handling in Antwerp continues to grow; without additional capacity, cargo volumes and corresponding economic activities risk shifting to other ports. The Left Bank Container Cluster will enable the port to continue efficiently managing the growing container volumes, securing the port's future.

The project is currently in a public consultation phase, valid until August 10 this year, during which amendments can be incorporated. It will then be submitted to the Council of State.
