en.Wedoany.com Reported - Emirates has announced plans to launch a second Airbus A350 route from Dubai to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on August 8, aiming to increase the availability of premium economy seats on this route.
The new route will replace the current Boeing 777 operating flights EK648/649 with an Airbus A350. Currently, Emirates operates four daily flights between Dubai and Colombo, using a mixed fleet of Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft. This move is part of Emirates' broader strategy to expand the deployment of the Airbus A350 across its global network. The airline first introduced the A350 on the Colombo route in March this year, marking the debut of its premium economy class in Sri Lanka.
According to the flight schedule, the new Airbus A350 will operate flight EK648, departing from Dubai International Airport at 4:10 PM daily and arriving at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport at 10:10 PM. The return flight EK649 departs Colombo at 2:55 AM and arrives in Dubai at 5:50 AM (all times local). Alongside the existing EK654/655 flights, this additional service will offer passengers more flexible flight timing options while increasing the number of premium economy seats on the route.
The Airbus A350 is the latest addition to Emirates' all-widebody fleet, featuring updated cabin interiors, wider aisles, higher ceilings, faster Wi-Fi connectivity, and 4K entertainment screens across all classes. The in-flight entertainment system supports multiple languages, including Tamil and Sinhala.
Currently, Emirates operates three daily direct flights between Dubai and Colombo, plus one daily flight with a stopover in Malé, Maldives. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the airline's Colombo route, connecting the Sri Lankan city to nearly 140 destinations through its global network, supporting travel, tourism, and trade between the two markets.
