en.Wedoany.com Reported - AVT recently successfully completed the installation of an 18-inch hot tap valve on a fire protection pipeline at a major international airport on the U.S. West Coast. The valve was installed on a large-diameter fire protection line, and essential fire protection services remained operational throughout the construction period, avoiding the need to shut down flow and impact critical airport services.

The installation site, located near an aircraft maintenance hangar of a major airline, is part of a broader airport improvement plan involving pavement replacement and new pipeline laying. Since the fire protection pipeline could not be taken out of service, traditional shutdown installation methods were not feasible. Additionally, the construction took place in a high-security airport environment, where access, safety, and coordination requirements added to the project's complexity.
AVT's local installation partner selected the 18-inch AVT EZ Valve system, which allows installation on pressurized pipelines. This partner had previously completed projects at the same airport and collaborated with AVT technical experts during the installation. The valve installation established a permanent control point on the fire protection network, supporting future isolation and maintenance work while keeping the system available during the upgrade.
Shawn Petty, AVT's head, stated that the successful delivery of the project demonstrated technical capability and the partner's expertise. Petty noted that in environments where shutdowns are not feasible, AVT provides confidence and capability to ensure the system remains operational while critical improvements are made.
Airport fire protection infrastructure is a critical service, especially in aircraft maintenance and hangar areas. This case required the installation of a large-diameter valve without interrupting fire protection, also reflecting the widespread need for large-diameter hot tap insertion solutions in complex water supply and fire protection networks. AVT is part of Henkel Adhesive Technologies, and its water and civil infrastructure product portfolio includes valve installation, pipe repair, manhole repair, coating, and structural reinforcement technologies.
