Wedoany.com Report-Nov 2,   Guam has been awarded nearly $700,000 in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, to help individuals and families with low incomes pay their home energy costs, according to a press release from Guam Del. James Moylan.

The program can also be used to weatherize homes to make them more energy efficient and mitigate energy emergencies during disasters and extreme weather, the release added.

"The LIHEAP program is crucial to many families, particularly those in certain income levels. It would assist in protecting the safety and health of households throughout the island. The funding can be used to address energy bills and avoid disconnections while ensuring young children are provided with necessities in their households. We thank the federal government for the assistance," Moylan stated in the release.

The funding release announces about $3.7 billion of federal fiscal year 2025 regular block grant funding to LIHEAP grant recipients, the delegate's release stated.

"Maintaining safe indoor air temperatures is critical, particularly for households that include older adults, individuals with disabilities and young children. By helping to reduce the costs of home energy bills, reconnecting disconnected energy services, preventing energy shut-offs, and providing minor energy-related home repairs, LIHEAP helps ensure that low-income families can meet their home energy needs and stay safe in their homes," the release added.

Individuals interested in applying for LIHEAP can visit energyhelp.us or call the National Energy Assistance Referral hotline toll free at 1-866-674-6327, the release stated.
