Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 29, Italian companies Duferco Energia and Ansaldo Green Tech have entered into a strategic agreement for the supply and commissioning of a 1 MW electrolyzer, which will be used for green hydrogen production as part of the hydrogen valley project in Giammoro, Sicily, in the province of Messina. The electrolyzer, supplied by Ansaldo Green Tech, uses anion exchange membrane (AEM) technology, known for its high efficiency and operational flexibility.

The electrolyzer is part of a project funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU initiative, under the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) framework. The system is expected to produce over 500 kg of green hydrogen per day, with 99.9% purity, while optimizing energy consumption. In addition to the electrolyzer, the Giammoro hydrogen valley project will feature a 4 MW photovoltaic plant to power the electrolyzer, supporting the production of about 100 tons of green hydrogen annually.

The green hydrogen produced will primarily help decarbonize key industrial sectors such as steelmaking, logistics, and mobility. The total investment for the hydrogen valley project is €10 million, which is expected to significantly boost the local economy, create jobs, and promote growth in the green hydrogen production and distribution supply chain.

This initiative is part of Europe’s broader decarbonization strategy under the RePowerEU plan, which aims to reduce fossil fuel dependence and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy sources.
