en.Wedoany.com Reported - Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines (Ministerio de Energía y Minas, Minem) held a briefing in the province of Sechura, Piura region, represented by Deputy Minister of Mining Gaby Julca, to present the progress of the Sechura Project (Proyecto Sechura). This state project aims to explore, extract, and process phosphate rock resources within the Bayóvar non-metallic mining concession area.

During the briefing, Julca noted that by producing fertilizers, the Sechura Project is expected to transform mineral resources into opportunities for sustainable development, thereby reducing dependence on imported fertilizers and enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic agricultural sector. The official stated that the significance of this project lies not only in developing mineral resources but also in creating new possibilities for value addition.

Participants in the briefing included Congressman Cruz Zeta, Mayor of Sechura Province Carmen Morales, Regional Manager of the Piura Regional Government Pedro Antonio Valdivieso, representatives of the Sechura Water Users Committee, Activos Mineros S.A.C. (AMSAC), the Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversión), and several officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

Julca reported that the project has now completed the planning phase and officially entered the structural design phase. The next steps will involve drafting the initial contract, preparing tender documents, and completing the technical studies required to attract private investment, in order to establish a transparent and clearly regulated cooperation framework. She added that fertilizer production will target local, regional, and national markets, leveraging the phosphate rock reserves of Bayóvar, with future export potential.

Julca emphasized that the implementation of the Sechura Project will promote job growth, encourage the participation of local suppliers, facilitate technology transfer, and increase fiscal revenue through mining taxes and royalties. These funds will be used for public works and reducing regional disparities, ultimately benefiting the population.
