en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency has authorized mobile operator TIM to use 40 MHz of spectrum in the 2.3 GHz band on a secondary basis in 299 cities in the Northeast. The license is valid until June 18, 2031, covering eight states in northeastern Brazil, excluding Maranhão, and includes capital cities such as Fortaleza, Natal, João Pessoa, and Teresina.

The 40 MHz spectrum includes the 2.370 GHz frequency and can be used by TIM to provide personal mobile communication services. The additional available spectrum can provide more wireless transmission resources for base stations, enabling the operator to increase network capacity in areas with high user density and rapid growth in mobile data traffic. After the spectrum resources are integrated into the actual network, TIM must also complete base station radio frequency equipment adaptation, antenna system configuration, network parameter optimization, and terminal compatibility verification to convert the frequency resources into usable mobile communication capabilities for users.

This authorization is non-exclusive, secondary, and temporary, and TIM does not enjoy interference protection. This means the company can use the relevant frequency band but cannot require spectrum holders with higher usage priority in the same area to adjust their networks, nor can it receive the same protection as primary users in the event of interference. Secondary usage is more suitable for supplementing existing network resources, and the specific availability still depends on local frequency occupancy, base station distribution, and the deployment of other operators.

Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency requires TIM to coordinate with other companies holding relevant radio frequency bands in the same service area when applying for station licenses. Coordination typically involves base station locations, transmission power, antenna direction, coverage boundaries, and frequency usage methods, aiming to reduce co-channel or adjacent channel interference between neighboring networks. For a deployment covering 299 cities, frequency coordination will not be a one-time event but will proceed gradually as base stations are built and expanded in different cities.

Among the authorized cities, Bahia has the highest number, with 88; Ceará and Pernambuco cover 65 and 62 cities, respectively. The remaining cities are distributed across Alagoas, Paraíba, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe. TIM can choose specific activation areas based on user scale, existing base station load, and mobile traffic demand in different cities, rather than having to launch services simultaneously in all 299 cities.
