en.Wedoany.com Reported - Srinagar International Airport has withdrawn a proposed Notice to Airmen for a full runway closure, ensuring normal daytime flight operations this year. An operational update posted on the airport's X platform indicates that there will be no full closure during 2026, with daily operations from 08:00 to 17:00. Nighttime closures for maintenance will continue until October 2026.
Airlines have been notified to update flight schedules, and passengers are advised to confirm flight status with their respective carriers before traveling. The airport urges the public to rely on official channels for accurate information and emphasizes that routine maintenance will proceed without a full runway closure. This clarification aims to reduce uncertainty for operators and traveling passengers.
Previously, the Airports Authority of India had planned to close the runway every Monday and Tuesday starting in July, with a two-week continuous closure in October for necessary maintenance. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah raised the issue with the Defense and Civil Aviation Ministers and sought alternatives to minimize disruptions. He suggested that, if closure was unavoidable, the nearby Awantipora airfield could be opened to civilian flights during the maintenance period.
The cancellation of the plan has been welcomed by the Jammu and Kashmir government and tourism representatives, who say the outcome provides significant relief. Officials noted that the Monday and Tuesday maintenance schedule had led to flight cancellations, and engagement with central government ministers and the Prime Minister helped facilitate the revision. Airlines, airport operators, and the Airports Authority of India will continue to coordinate on managing operating hours and maintenance windows.
Passengers are advised to confirm times with their carriers and allow extra time for check-in and security, as maintenance will be conducted during non-daytime hours. The airport stated that airlines will continue to update schedules, and passengers should rely on official communications from the airport and airlines for the latest information. Authorities will monitor the situation and adjust maintenance windows as needed to balance safety and operational continuity.
