en.Wedoany.com Reported - Infraestruturas de Portugal, the Portuguese railway infrastructure management company, is upgrading its core communication network to ensure the reliability of mission-critical railway operations. The project aims to replace outdated systems and lay the technical foundation for the deployment of the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS).

The railway industry relies on highly reliable communication systems to maintain safety, train control, and operational efficiency. To meet these needs, Infraestruturas de Portugal has deployed a new radio communication infrastructure supplied by Kontron Transportation. This architecture supports the evolution of next-generation communication technologies within the access domain and can handle the high-density data transmission required for modern railway management.
The deployment involves a comprehensive overhaul of the existing communication framework, with Kontron Transportation responsible for the supply, installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of system components. The new architecture is continuously integrated with existing infrastructure and legacy applications to maintain uninterrupted operations during the transition. The implementation phase also includes operator training, documentation, and ongoing maintenance support.
By transitioning to an FRMCS-ready architecture, the railway operator has gained the high bandwidth and low-latency communication required for advanced applications, while improving network resilience and establishing a scalable path for future operational expansion.
