en.Wedoany.com Reported - The southern extension of Zhongshan Eastern Outer Ring Expressway Phase II (from Zhongshan Nanlang to Zhuhai Jinding) has officially broken ground in Guangdong, China. This project will enhance the interconnectivity of the comprehensive transportation system on the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

As a cross-city transportation artery linking Foshan, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai, the Zhongshan Eastern Outer Ring Expressway directly connects to the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge and the long-term planned Shenzhen-Zhuhai Bridge. Its southern extension, approximately 16 km in length, starts west of Linxi Village, Nanlang Subdistrict, Zhongshan City, seamlessly connecting to the Phase I project of the Eastern Outer Ring Expressway, which is in its final sprint toward completion. It extends southward to Tangjiawan, Zhuhai High-tech Zone, providing a smooth link to the Western Coastal Expressway and the Zhuhai branch of the Guang'ao Expressway.

The Zhuhai section (K45+200~K50+058.522) now under construction is part of the southern extension from the Cuiheng South Interchange to the terminus, with a mainline length of approximately 4.7 km. This section includes 2 extra-large bridges and 3 large/medium bridges, along with one Xiazha (Hub) Interchange. The mainline adopts a two-way six-lane expressway standard, with a design speed of 80 km/h and a roadbed width of 34.5 meters.

The project aims to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2029. By then, Zhuhai will be directly connected to the Zhongshan Eastern Outer Ring Expressway via the Jinqin Expressway, reducing commuting time to Shenzhen to 40 minutes, further promoting interconnectivity among cities in the Greater Bay Area.
