en.Wedoany.com Reported - Australian hydrogen startup Hysata has secured its first commercial order for a megawatt-scale capillary-fed alkaline electrolyzer, marking the technology's first commercial application. Hysata stated that the system achieves an electrolysis efficiency of 95%.

Under the agreement, Hysata will deliver the system to an undisclosed global key customer in the first half of next year. The project targets hard-to-abate industrial sectors and has secured hydrogen offtake arrangements. Both parties did not disclose the contract value.

This commercial order follows Hysata's demonstration project with Saudi Arabia's state-backed energy company ACWA Power in 2025, indicating the company is accelerating the commercialization of capillary-fed electrolysis technology.

Unlike conventional alkaline and PEM electrolyzers that use liquid electrolyte storage tanks, Hysata's capillary-fed electrolysis technology utilizes capillary action to deliver electrolyte directly to the reaction interface. The company says this technology reduces system resistance losses and minimizes bubble formation on electrode surfaces, achieving 95% electrolysis efficiency and providing a new pathway to lower green hydrogen production costs.

This commercial order comes just five years after Hysata's founding. In recent years, the company has received continuous capital support, including a AUD 20.9 million (approximately USD 14.5 million) grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) in 2023, and a USD 111 million Series B funding round led by bp Ventures in 2024.

Hysata CEO Paul Barrett stated that this order demonstrates the company's innovative electrolysis technology is ready for market application. Electricity costs represent the largest cost component in green hydrogen production, making improved electrolysis efficiency the most effective way to help customers reduce hydrogen production costs.

Hysata noted that as the company enters the scaled production phase for electrolyzers, it is currently collaborating with partners across three continents and continues to attract interest from potential customers and investors in Europe and the Middle East, further expanding its international market presence.
