en.Wedoany.com Reported - Australia's Viva Energy has refurbished a storage tank at its Pinkenba terminal in Brisbane to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Brisbane Airport. The project, supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), aims to pilot a "book and claim" system that enables airlines and corporate customers to purchase, track, and account for emission reductions associated with SAF supply at the airport.

Nick Adams, General Manager of Aviation at Viva Energy, stated that the project is a crucial step in building the infrastructure and market framework needed for aviation decarbonization in Australia. Adams noted that SAF cannot scale in Australia without the right infrastructure, systems, and customer confidence. The project has laid these foundations at Brisbane Airport, demonstrating how SAF can transition from a supply chain vision to actual airport operations, enabling credible emission reduction claims through transparency recognized by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). He believes this is a significant step toward establishing a more reliable SAF market in Australia, with the potential to develop a domestic manufacturing industry supporting low-emission aviation.
Gert-Jan de Graaff, CEO of Brisbane Airport, said the new tank is another step toward making low-carbon air travel a routine part of operations. Every liter of SAF delivered through this dedicated infrastructure helps the aviation industry move closer to its decarbonization goals. Through collaboration across the entire supply chain, SAF can become a more regular part of aircraft operations in Queensland, while building momentum for a stronger SAF industry in Australia.
