This week showcased groundbreaking advances in AI and digital innovation, bringing together global leaders, tech pioneers, policymakers, civil society, and youth representatives. From cutting-edge technology demonstrations to historic discussions on AI governance, these events reflected a shared commitment to ensuring that AI and digital technologies benefit everyone.

Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), stated that during Geneva Digital Week, the world collectively shaped a shared digital future. She noted that international cooperation provides the most powerful tool for addressing AI governance, innovation, and digital development, while ensuring technology benefits all.

The Global Dialogue on AI Governance convened for the first time with a mandate from United Nations Member States. The two-day dialogue emphasized that science-based collaboration is fundamental to addressing challenges such as trust, equity, and accessibility. The meeting is scheduled to reconvene in New York in May 2027.

The annual AI for Good Global Summit 2026 was held concurrently, showcasing the latest breakthroughs in AI innovation and demonstrating how practical solutions, skills development, and standards can work together to deliver AI that benefits everyone.

The newly established AI for Good Global Commission held its inaugural meeting during the summit. Co-chaired by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc Benioff, with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin serving as Vice-Chair, the commissioners called for urgent action on trust, equitable access, and practical AI solutions.

Recognizing that the future of AI depends on trust, AI for Good announced the formation of a new "Agentic AI Focus Group." This group will develop a trusted digital identity framework and ensure that AI agents remain trustworthy and accountable throughout their lifecycle.

ITU AI for Good AI Skills Coalition Goodwill Ambassador will.i.am emphasized the importance of skills and education during the summit, and participated in announcing three new AI Skills Coalition partners at the initiative's annual meeting.

AI for Good demonstrated cross-sector AI achievements through multiple initiatives, including the "Robotics for Good Youth Challenge," "AI for Good Film Festival," "AI for Good Innovation Factory," "AI for Good Impact Awards," "Canvas of the Future," "AI and Space Computing Challenge," and the "Innovate for Impact 2026" project.

The WSIS Forum 2026, the United Nations' longest-standing platform for advancing digital development, brought together global stakeholders to explore innovative ways technology can drive sustainable development. With a renewed mandate extending to 2035, the forum featured high-level discussions and grassroots exchanges covering digital cooperation, capacity building, and refugee connectivity. Participants also celebrated the winners of the WSIS Prizes, which recognize top technology solutions in digital development.

The "Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition" has surpassed its $100 billion target. The coalition drives efforts to connect the 2.2 billion people worldwide who remain offline.

The WSIS Forum also hosted the final meeting of the International Advisory Body on Submarine Cable Resilience, adopting a final report containing recommendations to strengthen the resilience of infrastructure that carries over 99% of global data traffic.

Geneva Digital Week established connections between policy dialogue, science, technological innovation, and actionable solutions, laying the foundation for AI and digital technologies to serve everyone.
