en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Baotou Weijun 500 kV energy storage collection station, constructed by PowerChina, has recently been connected to the grid and put into operation. Located in Mingsha Nao Township, Tumd Right Banner, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and constructed by SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., this station is the energy storage collection station with the highest voltage level and the largest supporting single-unit energy storage capacity in China.
As the core hub of the Baotou Weijun 1.5 GW/9 GWh independent energy storage demonstration project, this collection station is responsible for boosting the voltage of electricity released from five 220 kV energy storage power stations before transmitting it to the 500 kV main grid of the Western Inner Mongolia Power Grid, enabling the aggregation and unified output of power from these five stations.

Leveraging the technical characteristics of ultra-high voltage aggregation, this project enables centralized confluence and unified charge-discharge scheduling for distributed energy storage stations within the area, thereby effectively enhancing green power consumption capacity and power supply reliability. Once all energy storage stations are fully operational, the collection station will have a maximum discharge capacity of 1.5 GWh per hour, sustaining discharge for six hours.

After the collection station was completed and put into operation, it has opened up the entire chain for energy storage stations—from "storing effectively" to "transmitting smoothly and utilizing efficiently." This has further improved the integrated source-grid-load-storage energy industry layout in Baotou City, providing support for regional energy structure optimization, the construction of a new power system, and green and low-carbon development.
