en.Wedoany.com Reported - CeraPhi Energy has signed a framework agreement with Star Energy, the largest onshore oil and gas operator in the UK, to transfer and repurpose Star Energy's non-producing wells and well sites into geothermal clean energy assets using CeraPhi's proprietary technology, CeraPhiWell™. The agreement establishes a clear regulatory and commercial pathway for the UK energy transition, including engagement with the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) and the Environment Agency, and sets milestones for asset transfer, planning, and development. CeraPhi will assume full lifecycle responsibility for geothermal development, covering financing, construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning.

Under the terms of the agreement, CeraPhi serves as the exclusive strategic partner responsible for assessing, redeveloping, and commercializing geothermal energy from selected Star Energy well sites. These assets, once no longer commercially viable for oil and gas production, will be converted into long-term renewable heat and energy solutions for commercial and residential customers.

The initial phase targets up to 25 wells across multiple UK oil fields; subsequent phases are expected to expand as more wells reach the end of their production life, subject to establishing a transfer framework satisfactory to regulators.

This collaboration reduces the environmental impact and cost of geothermal development by leveraging existing oil and gas infrastructure.

Karl Farrow, CEO of CeraPhi Energy, stated that this agreement is a key step in unlocking the UK's geothermal potential, accelerating the transition to clean energy by repurposing existing wells, and creating a sustainable model that delivers long-term value for communities, industry, and the environment.

Ross Glover, CEO of Star Energy Group plc, added that Star Energy plays a long-term role in the UK energy landscape, and partnering with CeraPhi allows for the responsible transformation of traditional assets into future-proof clean energy solutions, supporting the UK's net-zero emissions targets while maximizing infrastructure value.
