en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 13, 2026, AV Dawson invested €5.9 million (approximately £5 million) to build a new dry bulk rail terminal at the Port of Middlesbrough in northeast England.
The project will include new discharge pits, rail lines, a conveyor system, dedicated storage warehouses, and concrete loading platforms. Seymour Construction and Atherton Material Handling, both based in Hartlepool, are working with AV Dawson to deliver the project.
The new terminal will increase unloading capacity by 40% to 500 tonnes per hour. The facility is equipped with five rail lines and additional sidings to move wagons into the discharge pits and conveyor system.
The facility can handle dry bulk commodities such as fertilizers, aggregates, salt, industrial minerals, and energy products. Customers can use both indoor and outdoor storage space on site.
The Port of Middlesbrough is located on the River Tees and has direct rail access to the East Coast Main Line. The site is also connected to dock operations for rail-to-port transshipment and linked to the road network via the A19 and A1 highways.
AV Dawson owns and operates the 120-acre Port of Middlesbrough, which the company describes as the largest independent rail freight facility in northeast England.
