en.Wedoany.com Reported - South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 15th that it will conduct legislative previews for amendments to the Enforcement Decree of the Building Act and the Standards for Building Evacuation and Fire Prevention Structures by the 24th of next month, including the relaxation of inter-floor fire compartment standards for equipment pipe rooms in semiconductor factories.

Due to frequent changes in manufacturing processes, semiconductor factories often require the addition or relocation of equipment pipes. Traditional inter-floor fire compartments made of concrete slabs must be demolished and rebuilt during each renovation, posing significant construction challenges. In response to this characteristic, the amendment stipulates that if an automatic sprinkler system with fire safety performance equivalent to or exceeding that of inter-floor fire compartments is installed, the obligation to install inter-floor fire compartments can be relaxed.

Previously, quality certification for new building material products was only applicable to fire-resistant structures. This amendment expands the scope to include four types of materials: fire doors, fire shutters, fire-resistant filling structures, and composite materials, allowing certification standards to be established for new product development in these categories. The amendment also includes improvements to installation standards: if a composite fire shutter combining a fire door and an automatic fire shutter is installed, an additional fire door is not required, which helps optimize space utilization in large shopping malls and similar venues.

Jeong Seung-soo, head of the Building Safety Division at South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated that the revision aims to reasonably reflect changes in industrial sites and the application of new technologies while ensuring fire safety in buildings.
