en.Wedoany.com Reported - Material coating manufacturer Belzona conducted an extreme load test at its headquarters in Harrogate, UK, where a carbon steel pipe reinforced with the Belzona SuperWrap II composite system successfully withstood the crushing weight of a 7-ton "Red Dragon" giant truck, validating the system's exceptional strength restoration capability.
This test is part of Belzona's countdown to its 75th anniversary in 2027. The company reinforced a carbon steel pipe using the Belzona SuperWrap II composite wrap system before driving the "Red Dragon" giant truck over the pipe. Despite the immense load, the reinforced pipe successfully met the challenge, powerfully demonstrating the system's ability to restore the integrity of pipes and tank walls damaged by perforation, wall thinning, corrosion, and erosion.
Belzona CEO Barry Nisill stated that as the company begins the countdown to its 75th anniversary, it wanted to do something impressive to showcase the innovation and engineering expertise that have been at the core of the company for nearly three-quarters of a century. Driving a 7-ton giant truck over a pipe repaired with Belzona SuperWrap II not only captured attention but also demonstrated the strength and reliability of this technology, which helps global customers extend the service life of critical equipment and infrastructure.
The Belzona SuperWrap II system combines 100% solids resin with a custom hybrid reinforcement sheet incorporating glass fiber and carbon fiber technologies. The system offers four resin grades: Belzona 1981, Belzona 1982, Belzona 1983, and Belzona 1984, which can be selected based on different service environments and operating conditions.
Belzona SuperWrap II is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -60°C (-76°F) to 150°C (302°F) and can be used for on-site repair of through-holes and thin-wall defects, even in underwater environments. As an alternative to traditional repair methods such as welding and component replacement, this system helps operators reduce downtime, avoid hot work, and extend asset life, and is widely used in industries including oil and gas, power generation, water and wastewater treatment, marine, and general manufacturing.
