en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 14, 2026, the Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has authorized Petrobras to operate the Boaventura photovoltaic power plant in Itaboraí, with an installed capacity of 13.5 MW. The authorization was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on Tuesday (July 14).

The plant operates under a self-generation model, thus eliminating the need for a Transmission System Usage Contract (Cust). Petrobras stated that UFG Boaventura will not alter the Transmission System Usage Amount (Must) already contracted under the consumption model.

With the new plant in operation, Petrobras' renewable energy installed capacity reaches 59.4 MW, of which 57.6 MW comes from solar plants distributed across the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte, and Pernambuco. According to Aneel's Generation Information System (Siga), the company also operates a 1.8 MW wind power plant in Rio Grande do Norte.

All of Petrobras' renewable energy plants operate under a self-generation model, primarily supplying power to the company's own operations, especially refineries. The UFV Boaventura photovoltaic plant is located within the Boaventura Energy Complex, where the company plans to build a biorefinery and fossil refining units for the production of fuels and lubricants.

Petrobras management previously disclosed plans to replace gray hydrogen produced from natural gas in its operations with green hydrogen, using renewable energy.
