en.Wedoany.com Reported - Saronic Technologies, an autonomous vessel technology company, has announced the construction of a next-generation shipyard, Port Alpha, in Brownsville, Texas. The project, with an investment of over $30 billion, aims to restore U.S. maritime power and boost shipbuilding capacity.

Port Alpha will be built as one of the world's most advanced shipyards, specifically designed for software-defined shipbuilding and autonomous maritime systems. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with operations starting in 2028. The project is projected to generate over $1600 billion in regional economic impact for Cameron County, $2645 billion for Texas, and create up to 10,000 direct jobs, making it one of the largest economic development projects in modern Texas history.

The construction of Port Alpha builds on Saronic Technologies' existing shipbuilding footprint. The company acquired a shipyard in Franklin, Louisiana, in early 2025 and plans to invest $300 million to add 300,000 square feet of capacity. This facility will continue to produce Saronic's 180-foot Marauder autonomous vessel, which was designed and launched in under a year. Port Alpha initially spans 835 acres at the Port of Brownsville, with potential for future expansion to nearly 4,400 acres. The shipyard can build vessels up to 850 feet in length, with future site expansion supporting construction of vessels over 1,200 feet. The site features hundreds of acres of waterfront access, deepwater channel connections, intermodal logistics infrastructure, and long-term expansion space.

Saronic stated that Port Alpha's construction aligns with President Trump's Executive Order on Restoring America’s Maritime Dominance and the resulting Maritime Action Plan, which calls for a generational rebuild of the U.S. shipbuilding industry. Dino Mavrookas, co-founder and CEO of Saronic, said the investment aims to rebuild industrial capacity, workforce, and manufacturing advantages from the ground up to ensure U.S. maritime leadership for decades to come.

The site was selected after a year-long nationwide search spanning the East Coast, West Coast, and Gulf Coast. Brownsville passed rigorous scrutiny in terms of workforce availability, infrastructure readiness, land size, logistics, and expansion potential. Port Alpha is expected to create 10,000 direct jobs covering roles in welding, machining, robotics, software engineering, and naval architecture. Saronic will collaborate with Texas, Cameron County, and local educational institutions to develop workforce training and apprenticeship programs to sustain long-term industrial growth and position South Texas as a center of excellence for advanced maritime manufacturing. Saronic stated that Port Alpha represents a new model for U.S. shipbuilding, combining advanced manufacturing, software-defined production, and autonomous capabilities on an unprecedented scale.
