en.Wedoany.com Reported - The City of Sunnyvale, California, announced an affordable housing development plan in July 2026, proposing to build a 110-unit affordable housing project at the former Wells Fargo Bank site at 295 South Mathilda Avenue. The project is being advanced in partnership with developer MidPen Housing and is currently in the early planning stages.
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale is home to the headquarters of tech companies such as Apple and Google, where housing costs have long remained high. The city acquired the property at the intersection of South Mathilda Avenue and West McKinley Avenue in September 2023. According to the plan, the project site will feature a five-story podium-style structure, with the ground floor serving as a lobby and passage space, and the upper floors housing residential units. Renderings provided by the design firm Dahlin Group show the building's exterior combining white cement panels with a brick base, accented by gray panels and window trim details.

All 110 units in the project plan are designated as affordable housing, with 25% of the units reserved for homeless individuals. The project site offers convenient transportation access, located just a 10-minute walk from the Sunnyvale Caltrain station, with nearby amenities such as cafes and restaurants. The building's height and massing are consistent with existing structures across the street.

The project is currently in the early design stages. The City of Sunnyvale and MidPen Housing will proceed with subsequent planning and approval processes. The advancement of this project will help alleviate the growing housing affordability crisis in Silicon Valley, providing more housing options for low-income individuals and families.
