Peru Invests Over $529 Million in Power Generation and Transmission in 2026

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) of Peru, by promoting private investment, has driven the development of the electricity subsector between March and July 2026, achieving significant progress in power generation and transmission with total investment commitments exceeding $529 million.

In the generation sector, Minem granted the final concession for the Yuramayo Solar Photovoltaic Plant (Central Solar Fotovoltaica Yuramayo) project, located in the Arequipa region. The project has an installed capacity of 245 megawatts and involves a private investment of approximately $169 million, utilizing renewable energy sources for power generation. Additionally, Minem approved the commencement of power generation activities for the Paita Industrial Thermal Power Plant (Central Térmica Paita Industrial) in the province of Paita, Piura region. This project will add 22 megawatts of installed capacity, requiring a private investment of about $21 million, helping to strengthen the electricity supply in northern Peru.

In the transmission sector, Engie obtained on June 30, 2026, the concession for four projects under Group 1 of the 2025-2034 Transmission Plan. These projects aim to strengthen the infrastructure of the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) and benefit the regions of Piura, Lambayeque, Junín, and Ayacucho. The specific projects awarded include: "500 kV Miguel Grau–Pariñas Transmission Line and Pariñas 500/220 kV Substation, Expansions and Related Substations"; "220 kV Felam–Tierras Nuevas–Salitral Transmission Line, Expansions and Related Substations"; "New Palián 220/60 kV Substation and Related Transmission Lines"; and "220 kV Muyurina–Mollepata Transmission Line, Expansions and Related Substations." The total investment for these four transmission projects amounts to $339 million.
