Developed by InfiMotion, a company under the Geely Holding Group, this new system is first deployed in the all-electric sedan Galaxy TT, recently unveiled in China. The architecture is expected to be rolled out in future models.

The main feature of Thunder is its high level of integration, consolidating components typically found in separate modules. The system integrates 12 hardware functions, including the motor, inverter, reducer, onboard charger (OBC), DC/DC converter, power distribution unit (PDU), high- and low-voltage battery management, vehicle control unit (VCU), thermal management system (TMS), active pre-charge control, and powertrain domain gateway.

Additionally, the system integrates four software functions responsible for intelligent energy management, charging, vehicle dynamics, and system health monitoring. According to Geely, the architecture reduces over 180 components, cutting the overall system weight by 15%, high-voltage wiring by 30%, and low-voltage wiring by 15%.

The entire system weighs only 75 kg and features a magnesium alloy housing. The motor, reducer, and brackets are also integrated into a single structure, keeping the system height under 325 mm. Geely states this can free up approximately 28 liters of additional trunk space.

Another highlight is compatibility with 800-volt high-voltage platforms. Thunder adopts an electronic architecture called One-Chip, which reduces control response time from about 40 milliseconds to 2 milliseconds, enhancing the powertrain response speed.

Geely also notes that artificial intelligence-based algorithms continuously adjust system operation to improve efficiency under different usage conditions. For example, at minus 18 degrees Celsius, the system can store thermal energy equivalent to approximately 7 kWh, reducing the energy needed to heat the cabin by over 40%.

In a test conducted at Qinghai Lake in China, a vehicle equipped with Thunder recorded an energy consumption of 8.2 kWh/100 km. Geely emphasizes this measurement was under specific test conditions. According to China's CLTC cycle, the system can achieve a minimum energy consumption of 10.7 kWh/100 km, depending on vehicle configuration.

The new technology debuts on the Geely Galaxy TT, an all-electric sedan measuring 4.99 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.92 meters. The model will offer a rear-wheel-drive version (245 kW/329 hp) and an all-wheel-drive version (425 kW/570 hp), with the latter accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Battery options include 52.4 kWh, 63.8 kWh, and 75.2 kWh, with CLTC range between 540 km and 725 km.

While there is no confirmation on whether Thunder will be used in models for the Brazilian market, this launch showcases the direction Geely is taking for its next-generation electric vehicles.
