Whiterose Partners Plans 48MW Data Center in Illinois

The company plans to build a 200,000-square-foot (approximately 18,580 square meters) data center on a 9-acre site and has submitted a power application to Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) requesting 48 megawatts of grid capacity. The facility will use a closed-loop cooling system to reduce water consumption. The target site is located at 33W 304 Kenyon Road, covering approximately 20 acres, currently used for agriculture. The land would need to be annexed into South Elgin for development. The property is held by former Kane County Board member Mike Kenyon through Kenyon Brothers Company.

South Elgin is a village in Kane County, Illinois, located approximately 40 miles west of Chicago. Whiterose Partners is a development company focused on digital infrastructure, with operations including power-ready land development, power-ready shells, and custom client development projects. A small church, Iglesia Apostolica Filadelfia, occupies a corner of the planned development site. The South Elgin Planning and Zoning Commission had originally scheduled a meeting last week to discuss the project, but the meeting has been canceled, with the next commission meeting set for August.

Kenyon, who owns over 1,000 acres in Kane County for farming and raising approximately 55 dairy cows, anticipates controversy over the project. "My wife is angry with me," Kenyon told the media. "I expect people will be angry with me too." As of this writing, a Change.org petition opposing the project has gathered 6,560 signatures, urging decision-makers to prioritize residents' needs and suggesting consideration of alternatives such as renewable energy.
