en.Wedoany.com Reported - Damen Shipyards is driving the digitalization and sustainable development of its maritime business by introducing SAP technology.
Founded in 1927, this Dutch family-owned maritime group operates globally, with over 12,500 employees and more than 35 shipyards across six continents. Damen aims to become the world's most sustainable maritime solutions provider, combining centuries-old craftsmanship with innovation, digitalization, and operational excellence.

After investing in SAP S/4HANA as its core ERP foundation, the group is now focusing on applying SAP Business AI to expand the platform's impact.
Han Coenraad, ERP Product Manager at Damen, stated that the company expects to reap the business value of this initial investment by using AI, particularly in operational processes, to make operations smoother and support more data-driven decisions.
Damen has enabled SAP Joule for Consultants and SAP Joule for Developers, and is exploring conversational capabilities that allow employees to interact with SAP systems and processes using natural language.
Looking ahead, Damen sees opportunities to leverage embedded and customized AI use cases to improve data quality, optimize operational processes, and help teams work faster while staying closer to customers.
One specific example is using AI to support parts sales engineers by automatically reading documents from customer emails and transferring the correct information into sales orders. Coenraad explained that the goal is to "build ships faster, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction."
Inspired by SAP Sapphire and the vision of the Autonomous Enterprise, Damen is ready to take the next step. Coenraad expressed excitement about this strategic shift and is determined to achieve this goal.
