The project, named the Traralgon Western Distribution Main, will construct a new main water pipeline connecting the Traralgon Water Treatment Plant to the Clarkes Road reservoir. This new pipeline will provide a second connection to the reservoir and represents the first phase of a larger plan to link the Traralgon and Morwell water supply networks. The pipeline route will extend from Old Melbourne Road to Hazelwood Road, passing under the Princes Freeway and railway at Coonoc Road. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

Gippsland Water Managing Director Sarah Cumming stated that the new pipeline will effectively enhance the resilience of the water supply network. Cumming noted that the additional main pipeline, serving as a second connection to the Clarkes Road reservoir, will improve network reliability, help meet growing population demands, and enhance customer water pressure during peak periods. As the first phase of a broader plan to connect the Traralgon and Morwell water supply networks, this project will further strengthen water security for the local community.
