en.Wedoany.com Reported - Deep Yellow (ASX:DYL) has awarded two civil and concrete construction contracts for its Tumas uranium mine project in Namibia, with a total value of approximately US$34 million.
These contracts were signed ahead of the Final Investment Decision (FID), securing construction capacity. The FID is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, with personnel mobilization planned to commence in August this year.
Namibia Construction has been awarded a contract worth approximately US$18.5 million, covering reinforced concrete works within the processing, leach feed thickening, and tailings disposal facilities.
The company is also responsible for precast concrete components within the processing plant, as well as the design and construction of a reinforced earth retaining wall supporting the run-of-mine stockpile.
Another local firm, Nexus Building and Civils Contractors, has secured a contract worth approximately US$15.5 million for reinforced concrete foundations, pedestals, slabs, and embedded infrastructure in the remaining areas of the plant.
Both contracts were awarded to Namibian companies through a competitive tender process and are expected to primarily utilize local labor.
Chief Executive Officer Greg Field said that securing contractors before the investment decision helps create multiple construction work fronts.
"Civil and concrete works are fundamental to the successful delivery of any large processing facility. Locking in these capabilities now opens up multiple work fronts, improves execution flexibility, and enhances confidence in execution post-FID," Field said.
These works will be delivered sequentially and will not impact the project's critical path or the established 24-month construction schedule post-FID. Deep Yellow noted that increasing work fronts is intended to enhance overall flexibility and reduce schedule risk.
