en.Wedoany.com Reported - The NSW Government has completed a $4.25 million road upgrade on the Castlereagh Highway at the Noolargh Swamp section, south of Walgett, aimed at improving safety and reliability for traffic in the region.

The project delivered a 5.42-kilometer road upgrade near Ginginbilla Road, 46 kilometers south of Walgett, commencing in March 2026 and completed on schedule within three months. The Castlereagh Highway is a vital link connecting regional communities, supporting the movement of people, freight, and services across northwestern New South Wales.

Damien Pfeiffer, Executive Director of Transport for NSW, stated that the work brings lasting benefits to the local community, freight operators, and visitors traveling through the area. The upgrade included widening sections of the highway, repairing the pavement, and applying a new spray seal to improve ride quality and enhance the resilience of this important regional transport route. Following the completion of the works, the speed limit on the Noolargh Swamp section of the Castlereagh Highway has been restored to 110 km/h after being reduced to 80 km/h for nearly six years. Pfeiffer noted that safety remains the top priority, and restoring the 110 km/h speed limit reflects significant improvements in road conditions, helping to enhance travel efficiency while maintaining a safe road environment.
