Peru invests 1.66 billion soles in new drinking water treatment plant in Juliaca

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS) of Peru has initiated the construction of a new drinking water treatment plant under the third phase of the Comprehensive Drinking Water and Sewerage System Project (PIAA) in Juliaca. The PIAA project, divided into four phases, will benefit over 370,000 residents in the districts of San Miguel and Juliaca upon completion.

The MVCS stated: "This is a fulfillment of the commitment to the people of Juliaca, who have shown resilience and optimism. This infrastructure will help improve the health and quality of life of thousands of families." The drinking water treatment plant has a treatment capacity of 1,450 liters per second, equipped with a rapid filtration system for flood or high river flow periods, and direct filtration during clear water periods. The plant will treat water from the Estancia Maravillas intake point.

In addition to the drinking water treatment plant, the third phase of PIAA includes the construction of a surface water intake facility with a capacity of 1,600 liters per second, transmission pipelines, and other components to ensure continuous water supply to 217 beneficiary residential areas. The investment for this phase amounts to 513.8 million soles.

The Juliaca PIAA project is executed by the National Urban Sanitation Program (PNSU) under the MVCS, with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), totaling an investment of 1.66 billion soles. The project, which has been ongoing for over 40 years, aims to bridge the gap in drinking water and sanitation services in the region.
