The signed letter of intent covers behind-the-meter generation capacity of up to 8 MW of electricity, with initial deployment serving DIRECTV Latin America and SKY Brazil (Jaguariúna).
Alessandro Petruzzi, co-founder and CEO of Terra Innovatum, stated that the initiative aims to provide a reliable behind-the-meter clean energy solution for Waiken ILW's data centers and serve as a proof of concept for other long-term, high-energy operations within its group companies. He noted that critical communications infrastructure requires uninterrupted and resilient power, and this agreement demonstrates that commercial opportunities for behind-the-meter nuclear energy are growing, extending into media, telecommunications, and other critical infrastructure sectors.
This agreement marks Terra Innovatum's first announced commercial deployment plan in Latin America, which the company believes reflects growing international demand for standardized, factory-built micro-modular nuclear power. The SOLO technology was conceptualized in 2018 and underwent six years of engineering design. Terra Innovatum stated that the technology is manufactured using readily available commercial off-the-shelf components and follows a validated licensing pathway for rapid deployment, reducing supply chain risks and ensuring cost predictability. The micro-modular reactor is designed to accommodate evolving fuel options, supporting both Low-Enriched Uranium Plus (LEU+) and High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU), providing a platform for transitioning future fuel supplies.
Giordano Morichi, founding partner, Chief Business Development Officer, and Director of Investor Relations at Terra Innovatum, noted that the partnership with Waiken ILW highlights the commercial strength of the company's global supply chain and the versatility of the SOLO technology. He stated that the platform is scalable across multiple industries and geographies, including mission-critical operations in telecommunications, cloud infrastructure and data centers, financial services, healthcare, industrial facilities, and more.
The SOLO technology serves zero-emission behind-the-meter and off-grid power solutions, covering data centers, remote village microgrids, and hard-to-abate sectors such as cement production, oil and gas, steel manufacturing, and mining. The company stated that the technology can also provide thermal energy for industrial applications and other specialized processes, including water treatment, desalination, and cogeneration. Thanks to its modular design, SOLO can be scaled to provide up to 1 GW or more of CO2-free electricity. In addition to power generation and heat supply, the technology can contribute to the medical field by producing radioisotopes needed for oncology research and cancer treatment.
