Wedoany.com Report-May 25, TotalEnergies has officially inaugurated its largest solar power facility in Europe, located near Seville, Spain. This project marks a significant step in the company’s renewable energy strategy and supports Spain’s national target of achieving 80% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030.
The solar plant consists of five individual projects, collectively delivering a total installed capacity of 263 megawatts (MW). Electricity generated by the site will primarily be sold through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), while the remaining output will be marketed through the wholesale electricity market.
The project was declared of Strategic Interest by the regional government of Andalucia, reflecting its importance to the local economy and energy infrastructure. The installation features 400,000 bifacial solar panels mounted on trackers, designed to enhance energy efficiency by capturing sunlight from both sides of the panel.
Development of the plant contributed to the regional economy through the involvement of 14 companies, over half of which are based in Seville. The construction phase generated approximately 800 direct and indirect jobs, highlighting the project's role in local employment and industrial participation.
Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President for Renewables at TotalEnergies, commented: “We are very grateful to the Spanish authorities at the regional and national levels for their support for this solar project which contributes to Spain's ambition to reach 80% renewable energy in its mix by 2030.”
Jouny also emphasized the company's broader commitment in Spain: “With our 1,700 employees in Spain, we are building a competitive portfolio of integrated power businesses that combines renewables and flexible gas-fired power plants to provide 24-hour low-carbon energy to our customers. We are proud to be the 4th largest supplier of electricity, gas and related services in Spain, where we have more than 2 million private and professional customers.”
TotalEnergies continues to expand its presence in Spain’s energy sector by integrating renewable energy generation with flexible backup capacity, aiming to provide consistent and low-carbon energy solutions. This latest development near Seville strengthens the company's renewable footprint in the region and contributes to broader European efforts to reduce emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources.
