en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 30, the National Energy Administration held a regular press conference to introduce the national energy situation and energy transition achievements in the first half of the year, grid-connected operation of renewable energy, energy and power supply guarantee during peak summer periods, and the construction of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The "China New Energy Storage Development Report (2026)" was released, and questions from reporters were addressed.

At the conference, Xu Jilin, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment of the National Energy Administration, provided a brief introduction to the "China New Energy Storage Development Report (2026)".

The report mainly consists of four parts. First, it systematically summarizes the development of new energy storage both domestically and internationally in 2025, covering aspects such as policy systems, installed capacity, technological innovation, and industrial development. Second, it reviews the development history of China's new energy storage since the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, comprehensively summarizing the main experiences of the National Energy Administration in promoting the large-scale development, technological progress, and industrial growth of new energy storage. Third, it looks ahead to the industrial development during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, focusing on application scenarios, innovation-driven approaches, scientific planning, industry management enhancement, market mechanism improvement, and the promotion of exchanges and cooperation. Fourth, it introduces key tasks for 2026 to ensure a good start for the industry during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period.

Overall, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China's new energy storage industry has moved from the initial stage of commercial application to a new phase of large-scale development, laying a solid foundation for realizing the diverse value of new energy storage and promoting high-quality industrial development. First, the policy framework for new energy storage development has been continuously improved. Following the approach of "top-level design first, then special promotion, and gradual advancement," a comprehensive, well-coordinated, and synergistic policy system has been established with relevant departments. Second, the installed capacity of new energy storage has achieved leapfrog development. Adhering to the principle of "systematic planning and local adaptation," the installed capacity of new energy storage has grown rapidly, increasing from 3 GW at the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period to 136 GW, showing a trend of doubling year by year. Third, diversified technological innovation practices have been continuously deepened. The National Energy Administration has implemented an innovation-driven development strategy, promoting the rapid development of various technology routes, gradually forming a diversified development pattern with "lithium-ion battery energy storage as the dominant technology, alongside multiple technology routes." Fourth, the system's regulation capacity has been gradually realized. The utilization of new energy storage nationwide has been improving year by year. In 2023, 2024, and 2025, the national equivalent utilization hours of new energy storage reached 611 hours, 911 hours, and 1,195 hours, respectively, effectively playing a role in system regulation.
