Bruno Bertolotti, the company's R&D manager, explained that this technology enables simultaneous research into materials, manufacturing processes, and finished products, allowing the team to develop specific formulations for new construction methods and shorten the gap between the laboratory and real-world applications.
The new equipment, showcased alongside experts from the Spanish company Be More 3D, marks the technology's transition from academic research to industrial-scale application. Once operational, Yura's R&D laboratory will gain automated manufacturing capabilities for large components and significantly reduce reliance on molds and formwork.
Developing next-generation material formulations for additive manufacturing is one of the main challenges in this advancement. The printer can use traditional mixes while also exploring alternative cementitious materials, geopolymers, clays, and local resources such as volcanic ash to reduce the environmental footprint.
The potential applications of this technology span residential development, precast components, urban furniture, and infrastructure. To expand its impact, Yura plans to introduce an open innovation model, inviting universities, construction companies, and designers to participate. Bertolotti noted that the future of construction is not driven by a single field or company alone but requires collective building, layer by layer.
