en.Wedoany.com Reported - Caterpillar reported second-quarter 2026 results with sales and revenues of $20.543 billion, up 24% year-over-year, marking the first time quarterly revenue surpassed $20 billion and exceeding the previous record of $19.133 billion set in the fourth quarter of 2025. Growth was driven primarily by higher end-user equipment sales volumes and improved price realization, with volume increases contributing $3.1 billion and price realization adding $595 million.

Data center construction continues to drive demand for power generation equipment. Caterpillar's Electric Power and Energy business posted second-quarter sales of $8.238 billion, up 17% year-over-year; within this, power generation sales rose from $2.407 billion in the same period last year to $3.098 billion, an increase of 29%. Sales of large reciprocating engines, gas turbines, and related services all grew, with incremental demand primarily coming from data center applications.
North American sales for the Electric Power and Energy business reached $4.182 billion, up 30% year-over-year. Beyond power generation equipment, oil and gas sales increased 9% to $2.044 billion, driven by demand for reciprocating engines used in natural gas compression, aftermarket engine parts, and gas turbine services; industrial application sales also rose 9% to $1.653 billion.
Second-quarter profit for the segment increased 30% year-over-year to $2.027 billion, with margin expanding from 22.1% to 24.6%. Gains from higher volumes and improved price realization were partially offset by increased manufacturing costs. Caterpillar has reported growing demand for large reciprocating engines for data centers for several consecutive quarters, and related orders have continued to expand the company's overall backlog.
The other two primary segments also grew. Construction Industries sales rose 35% year-over-year to $8.346 billion, with North America up 50% to $5.065 billion; Resource Industries sales increased 20% to $4.648 billion, driven by higher end-user volumes in mining, heavy construction, quarry, and aggregates equipment, along with increased international locomotive deliveries and rail services revenue.
Caterpillar's second-quarter operating profit was $4.295 billion, up 50% year-over-year; operating margin rose from 17.3% to 20.9%, with adjusted operating margin at 21.9%. Earnings per share increased from $4.62 in the same period last year to $7.77, with adjusted earnings per share reaching $8.17. The company generated $4.4 billion in operating cash flow during the quarter, ending the period with $6.7 billion in enterprise cash.
