en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 12, Wan Hai Lines disclosed through two exchange announcements that it has ordered 8 container ships from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., both under China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The total contract value ranges from $928 million to $980 million, including costs for ship equipment upgrades.

The order includes 1 container ship of approximately 9,200 TEU and 7 container ships of approximately 11,000 TEU. The unit price for the 9,200 TEU vessel ranges from $102 million to $112 million, featuring a methanol dual-fuel ready design.
The 7 vessels of approximately 11,000 TEU are designed with both methanol and liquefied natural gas dual-fuel ready capabilities, priced between $118 million and $124 million per vessel. Based on this price range, the contract value for these vessels amounts to $826 million to $868 million. Combined with the 9,200 TEU vessel, the total price for all 8 ships reaches up to $980 million.
Both announcements were issued by Wan Hai Lines on behalf of its subsidiary, Wan Hai Lines (Singapore) Pte Ltd. Contract payments will be made in installments as stipulated in the shipbuilding agreements. Wan Hai Lines did not disclose the vessel delivery schedule in the exchange announcements.
In March 2026, Wan Hai Lines had already placed an order with Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding for 2 methanol dual-fuel ready container ships of approximately 9,200 TEU, with a contract value of $204 million to $224 million. With the addition of this new order, the number of container ships Wan Hai Lines has ordered from Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding this year has increased to 10.
The fleet expansion plan from March this year also includes 4 liquefied natural gas dual-fuel ready container ships of approximately 6,000 TEU to be built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong, with a total contract value of $300 million to $328 million. The newly added 11,000 TEU vessel type further expands the scale of Wan Hai Lines' ship orders at Chinese shipyards and extends its newbuilding layout to a larger capacity class.
