en.Wedoany.com Reported - Epsilon Carbon has commissioned a 300,000-tonne-per-annum specialty carbon plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, doubling its total specialty carbon capacity to 600,000 t/y and positioning the company among India's largest specialty carbon producers. The new capacity serves both domestic Indian industries and global customers.
Built on Industry 4.0 principles, the new plant integrates advanced process control, digital automation, and smart manufacturing systems to enhance product consistency, operational efficiency, and supply reliability. The plant produces coal tar pitch, crude and refined naphthalene, anthracene oil, wash oil, creosote oil, and other value-added carbon derivatives, which are widely used in industries such as aluminum, graphite, steel, tires, paints and dyes, pharmaceuticals, construction chemicals, and advanced materials.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Epsilon Carbon CEO Gaurav Mathur stated that this expansion reflects India's growing capability to become a global supplier of specialty carbon materials. With a capacity of 600,000 t/y, the company will strengthen supply chain resilience for domestic industries and international customers, particularly the global aluminum sector, while supporting India's emergence as a reliable, sustainable, and globally competitive manufacturing hub.
The Vijayanagar plant is a key step in Epsilon Carbon's broader expansion plan. The company is also building an integrated carbon materials complex in Jharsuguda, Odisha, which is expected to bring its specialty carbon capacity to 1 million t/y by 2029, placing the company among the world's largest integrated specialty carbon manufacturers.
Sustainability is embedded in the operations of the Vijayanagar complex. The plant employs a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system, with 100% of treated wastewater reused on-site; a 17 MW captive power plant fueled by recovered off-gas meets the complex's entire energy demand while reducing its carbon footprint. Epsilon Carbon holds Responsible Care certification, an EcoVadis Silver rating, and SA8000 certification.
