China's WELLE Signs Contract for High-Salinity Brine Treatment Equipment for CHN Energy Zhundong Coal-to-Gas Project

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 20, according to WELLE, the company recently signed a contract for the procurement of high-salinity brine treatment complete equipment for the wastewater treatment system and some plant-wide auxiliary facilities EPC general contracting project of CHN Energy's Zhundong 2 billion cubic meters per year coal-to-natural gas project. The project has officially entered the implementation phase. WELLE stated that the contract amount is not expected to have a material impact on the company's operating results for the 2026 fiscal year.

This procurement corresponds to the wastewater treatment system and some plant-wide auxiliary facilities EPC project of CHN Energy's Zhundong 2 billion cubic meters per year coal-to-natural gas project. The EPC general contracting contract was undertaken by China Tianchen Engineering Corporation, with a contract amount of approximately RMB 590 million. Public procurement information shows that the project's wastewater treatment system includes wastewater regulation, pretreatment, advanced treatment, and reuse. The high-salinity brine treatment portion includes pretreatment, advanced treatment, advanced oxidation, sludge dewatering, and evaporative crystallization, along with supporting auxiliary facilities such as the No. 1 circulating water field, regional substation, rainwater lifting pump station, and sewage temporary storage tanks.

China Tianchen has previously launched procurement of equipment and materials including high-pressure pumps, chillers, cable trays, pipe fittings, and valves for this EPC project. On September 18, the project was still advancing procurement of steel and aluminum alloy cable trays, stainless steel seamless steel pipes, carbon steel pipe fittings, and medium and low pressure butterfly valves, indicating that the wastewater treatment and auxiliary systems have entered a phase of continuous equipment procurement and engineering implementation.

CHN Energy's Zhundong 2 billion cubic meters per year coal-to-natural gas project is located in the Xibeishan Industrial Park of the Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xinjiang, with a total investment of approximately RMB 17.044 billion, of which environmental protection investment is approximately RMB 2.937 billion. The project's main works include air separation, coal gasification, shift conversion and cooling, acid gas removal, methanation, LNG liquefaction, sulfur recovery, water electrolysis hydrogen production, and carbon capture units. The environmental protection works include wastewater treatment systems, VOCs treatment facilities, and solid waste storage facilities.

WELLE has continued to expand its coal chemical industrial water treatment business in recent years. According to the company's 2025 annual report, it has implemented desalinated water treatment, wastewater discharge compliance, reclaimed water reuse, and high-salinity wastewater zero liquid discharge projects in fields such as coal chemical, coking, petrochemical, and food processing, and has identified the resource utilization and zero liquid discharge of high-salinity wastewater from coal chemical operations as a key direction for its industrial water treatment business.
