Louisiana-based Diversified Marine has completed construction of the M/V Edwin Rider, a new 1,600-horsepower inland towboat built for Vulcan Materials of Birmingham, Alabama.

The Edwin Rider was built at Diversified Marine's shipyard in Bourg, Louisiana, measuring 72 feet in length, 30 feet in beam, and 10 feet in hull depth.

The towboat features a twin-screw design, powered by two Mitsubishi S6R2-Y3 Tier 3 engines, each rated at 803 horsepower at 1,400 rpm, with the complete propulsion system supplied by Laborde Products.

This is the second towboat Diversified Marine has built for Vulcan Materials, following the M/V Larry Gravely.

Shipyard owner Robert Boudreaux Jr. stated that the project was always centered on delivering a reliable vessel to ensure long-term service for the customer, which requires working with trusted partners and selecting equipment proven on inland waterways.

Laborde Products participated in this build, supplying the propulsion package for the project. Bradley Matte, the company's Gulf Coast regional sales manager, noted that the Mitsubishi S6R2 has a strong reputation on inland waterways, with reliability and long-term durability recognized across the industry. He expressed satisfaction with the collaboration with Diversified Marine and looks forward to the M/V Edwin Rider entering service.
