en.Wedoany.com Reported - Petroecuador, Ecuador's state oil company, has implemented associated gas power generation projects in the Auca and Guanta oilfields. By replacing diesel with associated gas, the company saves over $13.2 million annually and reduces more than 22,758 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions. This achievement comes within the policy framework of the Ecuadorian government to strengthen energy security and optimize the use of the country's strategic resources.

The projects in both oilfields utilize associated gas generated during oil extraction to replace diesel consumption, thereby improving operational efficiency, enhancing operational sustainability, and promoting the responsible use of oil and gas resources.

At the Auca oilfield in Orellana province, Petroecuador has commissioned the Blower II system. This gas compression and processing infrastructure treats associated gas for power generation, increasing the oilfield's power generation capacity from 3.4 MW to 6 MW, and raising associated gas utilization from 522 to 711 MSCFD (thousand standard cubic feet per day). The project replaces approximately 9,900 gallons of diesel per day, with estimated annual savings of $12 million.

At the Guanta oilfield in Sucumbíos province, Petroecuador has implemented a dual-fuel system on generator sets, mixing associated gas with diesel for power generation to supply electricity for oilfield operations. This system replaces 980 gallons of diesel per day, saving approximately $1.2 million annually.

The results achieved at both oilfields reflect the institution's commitment to energy efficiency, as well as its efforts to enhance operational reliability, reduce costs, and promote more sustainable management of the country's energy resources through these projects.
